Born in Reno, Nevada and raised on a nearby Native American reservation, Ja Sean and her family frequently moved between Nevada and Northern California before settling in Oahu, Hawaii. She attended Punahou, a renowned high school with a pedigree that includes notable alumni such as Barack Obama, Pierre Omidyar, and Norm Chow. She then was accepted and attended the University of Hawaii before transferring to the University of Washington where she graduated with a degree in zoology. Throughout her time in college, Ja Sean worked at Gorden Biersch’s flagship store in Seattle, garnering an interest in the quick pace of the restaurant industry. Following her graduation, she moved south to reside in Los Angeles, accepting a job at the Rock’N Fish restaurant.
After nearly ten years of opening and managing restaurants for Mike Zislis in Los Angeles and Maui, she earned her sommelier certificate and shifted to work in wine sales for the Johnson Brothers. It was during her sales visits that Ja Sean frequented the Relais & Chateau property Hotel Wailea, who eventually offered her a position as the General Manager and Beverage Director of the restaurant on property. Several years later, she returned to Los Angeles to work at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills, with Chef Jean-Georges. In September of this year, Ja Sean joined our team at The Charter Oak as General Manager.
When not working, Ja Sean enjoys hiking in the hills surrounding the Napa Valley or exploring new bookstores. She looks forward to meeting the local community and further developing our team at The Charter Oak.
